Summary

In this procedure, the provider surgically removes a portion of the tibia bone near the knee and a portion of the fibula bone to assist with function and correcting deformities of the leg. Typically, the provider’s aim is to shift the patient’s body weight from a damaged side of the knee to the other side of the knee, where the cartilage is still healthy. The procedure takes place after the patient’s bones stop growing.
