In this procedure, the provider surgically immobilizes the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb in opposition position using an autograft. A metacarpophalangeal joint is a joint where the metacarpal bone of the hand attaches to the phalanx bone of the digit. Thumb opposition is the ability of the thumb to move across the palm and oppose the other finger tips.
