In this procedure, the provider transfers the tendons from one location to another to restore the intrinsic function of all 4 fingers. Loss of intrinsic function of the hand results in hyperextension of the metacarpophalangeal joints, between the palm and fingers, and flexion of the proximal and distal interphalangeal joints of the fingers. This is also called a claw hand deformity.
