The provider applies heat energy through a needle inserted into an invertebral disk, one of the cartilage cushions between the interlocking bones of the spine, to treat chronic back pain. He uses fluoroscopy, live X–ray, to guide the application of the treatment on one or both sides. He performs this procedure on an additional level after performing the procedure on one or more other levels.
