A cyst or other benign, or noncancerous, tumor of the mandible, or lower jaw bone, is removed in an open surgical procedure. The provider may use either an intraoral approach, through the mouth, or an extraoral approach, through the skin. For an aggressive, or fast growing, tumor, he performs intraoral osteotomy, cutting into bone to completely excise the tumor.
