A provider using a computer assisted navigation system, or CANS, performs musculoskeletal procedures, such as a joint replacement surgery, with the aid of a computer screen that provides a three–dimensional digital image of the patient’s anatomy. With the use of a CANS, the provider makes more accurate measurements, ensuring better fitting surgical components, with faster healing and less postoperative pain for patients. An imageless CANS does not require the use of preoperative imaging studies, such as computed tomography, or CT scanning.
