The provider applies a uniplane external fixation on one side of the body. Skeletal deformities or injuries such as fractures often require the use of skeletal fixation devices to join skeletal parts and maintain their normal alignment as healing takes place. An external fixation system, also called an external fixator or ex fix, is a fixation device that is placed inside of bones, and the device itself remains outside of the body.
