Interstitial radioelement application, an effective radiotherapy procedure also known as brachytherapy, treats certain types of cancers, such as cancers of the prostate, cervix, and breast. The provider inserts small tubes into which radioactive seeds are inserted immediately or at a subsequent encounter. The seeds emit radiation that damages or destroys cancerous cells.
