In this procedure, the provider places a tissue expander into the skin and pectoralis major muscles of the chest. The patient has the procedure to increase the size and volume of the breast to make space for a permanent implant, such as following a mastectomy. The provider performs the subsequent expansion portion of the procedure over a period of several weeks.
