A chemical peel, also called chemexfoliation, is the application of chemical agents (e.g. alpha–hydroxy acid, retinoic acid, or phenol) in a controlled manner to remove a superficial scar, sun damage, or acne. It involves the epidermis partially or completely. It may or may not involve the dermis depending on the duration and requirements of the procedure.
