The test is on a blood plasma specimen, which contains cell–free DNA (cfDNA), which includes circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) if cancer is present. The test uses a quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay to target certain genes that may undergo changes in their methylation patterns when colorectal cancer is present. The results indicate the presence or absence of circulating tumor DNA.
