Question: Can I bill G0050 with an office visit? Do I need a separate diagnosis?

Indiana Subscriber
Answer: Yes, you can bill G0050 (measurement of post-voiding residual urine and/or bladder capacity by ultrasound) with an office visit. You do not need a separate diagnosis. However, be sure you use the correct diagnosis with G0050. The payer will look for a diagnosis of urinary retention, 788.20 or 788.21. You can use the same diagnosis for the office visit, or you can use a different one, such as incontinence, 625.6, 788.30, 788.31 or 788.33. Ask your local carriers which diagnosis code they prefer.
