Does Laser Change Urethral Stricture Coding?

Question: One of my doctors performed a laser incision of a urethral stricture and also a urethral stricture biopsy. What is the proper coding since a laser has been used to treat the urethral stricture?Illinois SubscriberAnswer: You should report CPT 52276 (Cystourethroscopy with direct vision internal urethrotomy) for the laser incision of the urethral stricture. Watch out: The biopsy of the urethral stricture is part of this CPT code so you should not separately report 53200 (Biopsy of urethra).
