Reader Questions:

Use Unlisted-Procedure Code for Mitrofanoff Dilation

Question: The urologist did an endoscopic evaluation of a patient's Mitrofanoff access, a dilation of the Mitrofanoff stenosis, a complicated Foley catheter placement through the Mitrofanoff access, and a change of the suprapubic bladder catheter. Which CPT codes should I use?

New Mexico Subscriber Answer: There is no specific code for dilation of the Mitrofanoff outflow tract. Instead, use 44799 (Unlisted procedure, intestine) for the dilation and the placement of the Foley catheter.

For the cystoscopic examination of the bladder, report 52000 (Cystourethroscopy [separate procedure]). Also, report 51705 (Change of cystostomy tube; simple) for the change of the suprapubic tube.
