Use 50240 for Nephron-SparingNephrectomy

Question: Is there a code to charge for a nephron-sparing partial nephrectomy? My doctor says it pays more than a partial nephrectomy. Could this be a modified pyeloplasty, 50400? Texas Subscriber Answer: All partial nephrectomies can be considered "nephron-sparing" because the full kidney is not removed. However, there is no CPT code that specifically identifies a nephron-sparing nephrectomy. You will probably need to use 50240 (Nephrectomy, partial) to identify the procedure performed.
