Question: I read that Palmetto has changed its rules on transurethral waterjet prostate ablation. Is that correct? Georgia Subscriber Answer: You are correct that Palmetto, a Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) for Georgia and other states, made a change to its local coverage determination (LCD) L38549 on transurethral waterjet ablation of the prostate. Effective Jan. 29, 2023, Palmetto removed the age criteria in the LCD, which stated “age ≤80.” There is no longer any age restrictions for male patients undergoing a transurethral waterjet ablation of the prostate. The changes supersede the previous LCD that has been in effect since Dec. 27, 2020.
