Strengthen Your Fascia Harvest Claims

Question: Is it appropriate to report CPT 20926 in addition to CPT 51992 if the physician harvests the fascia from the patient? I do not see any bundling issues but I am unsure if 51992 includes the harvest.Virginia SubscriberAnswer: When your urologist performs a laparoscopic sling procedure, you should report 51992 (Laparoscopy, surgical; sling operation for stress incontinence [e.g., fascia or synthetic]). You can also bill the harvest code, 20926 (Tissue grafts, other [e.g., paratenon, fat, dermis]).Reasoning: When the urologist performs an open sling procedure, 57288 (Sling operation for stress incontinence [e.g., fascia or synthetic]), this code does not include the fascial harvest (20926). Therefore, consider the same to be true when your urologist uses harvested fascia during a laparoscopic sling procedure.
