Reader Questions:

Sometimes, You Just Need One Code

Question: I'm trying to code a ureteroscopy with biopsy and laser ablation of renal pelvis tumor. I was thinking CPT 52354 for the biopsy, but I am not sure what to use for the laser ablation. What codes should I report?Alabama SubscriberAnswer: You are correct in thinking that you should be reporting 52354 (Cystourethroscopy, with ureteroscopy and/or pyeloscopy; with biopsy and/or fulguration of ureteral or renal pelvic lesion). This is the only code you should be reporting. Report the one CPT code, 52354, for both the biopsy and the laser ablation.
