Reader Questions:

Seek Out Hidden Penis With 54161

Question: My doctor has a 10-month old patient with a hidden or buried penis. The doctor says he wants to perform a penile exhumation with a circumcision. What code would I use for this?

Texas Subscriber  Answer: For the diagnosis, report code 752.65 (Hypospadias and epispadias and other penile anomalies; hidden penis). Report 14040 (Adjacent tissue transfer or rearrangement, forehead, cheeks, chin, mouth, neck, axillae, genitalia, hands and/or feet; defect 10 sq cm or less) for the plastic procedure needed to free the penis and reconstitute the surrounding skin in the pelvic area, and along the now-freed penile shaft.

For the circumcision, report 54161 (Circumcision, surgical excision other than clamp, device or dorsal slit; except newborn).
