Question: My physician had to re-route the tubing of a penile prosthesis. He did not replace any of the components, but he did do a circumcision, penile degloving, then rerouted the penile prosthesis tubing from the left to the right, displacing the phallus and establishing an ipsilateral reservoir to the scrotal pump on the left side. He then reconstructed the penis. What CPT® code should I report?
AAPC Forum Member Answer: You should report codes 54408 (Repair of component(s) of a multi-component, inflatable penile prosthesis) and 54161 (Circumcision, surgical excision other than clamp, device, or dorsal slit; older than 28 days of age).
