Get More Information to Properly Report Case

Question: My urologist resected all visible bladder tumors across the posterior wall of the bladder and into the prostatic urethra, from the 5 to 10 o’clock position, to just proximal to the verumontanum. The patient has had a previous transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Which CPT® code should I report?

Answer: Without knowing the size of the tumor, you can only bill 52224 (Cystourethroscopy, with fulguration (including cryosurgery or laser surgery) or treatment of MINOR (less than 0.5 cm) lesion(s) with or without biopsy) for the resection of the bladder tumor extending into the prostatic fossa. You should report C67.8 (Malignant neoplasm of overlapping sites of bladder) as the ICD-10-CM code on your claim.
