Capture Patient Encounter in Another Doctor's Office

Question: If my doctor went to another physician's office and did the consult at the other physician's office, would I still code the service as 99244?Alaska SubscriberAnswer: First, report 99244 (Office consultation for a new or established patient, which requires these three key components: a comprehensive history; a comprehensive examination; and medical decision making of moderate complexity) for the consultation as you suggest. Then, you should also report 99056 (Service[s] typically provided in the office, provided out of the office at request of patient, in addition to basic service) for the place of service outside of your office. This special services code does not generate an established fee and does not mandate the placement of modifier 25 on the E/M code you're also reporting. This code, in addition to an E/M service code, simply describes further the basic service your urologist rendered.
