Reader Question:

Skip Penile Block With Verpamil Injection Coding

Question: How do I code a Verpamil injection and the associated penile block?Ohio SubscriberAnswer: You should report CPT 54200 (Injection procedure for Peyronie disease) or 54205 (Injection procedure for Peyronie disease; with surgical exposure of plaque) for the injection procedure depending on the service provided. Report J3490 (Unclassified drugs) for the Verapamil. Enter the National Drug Code (NDC) number, the dosage, the name of the drug, and how your urologist administered it in box 19 of the CMS 1500 form or the equivalent space for the electronic billing form.Note: The penile block is included in the procedure when the surgeon administers the anesthesia, so you should not code separately for it.
