Reader Question:

Retrograde Ejaculation

Question: What is the correct diagnosis code for retrograde ejaculation?

Montana Subscriber
Answer: There is no ICD-9 code for retrograde ejaculation, but effective Oct. 1, 2001, the code will be 608.87. Another related new diagnosis code that takes effect at the same time is 608.82, for hematospermia. Until the new codes go into effect, if a patient has retrograde ejaculation, you can bill using the diagnosis code for related symptoms, such as azoospermia (606.0) or oligospermia (606.1). You can also use 608.9 (unspecified disorder of male genital organs) or 608.89 (other specified disorders of male genital organs; other).
