Question: If a patient is having a repeat transurethral resection of a bladder tumor site, what code should be billed out?
Answer: Since transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TURBT) procedures have zero-day globals, you can use the appropriate code in the 52224-52240 (Cystourethroscopy, with fulguration [including cryosurgery or laser surgery] or treatment of … lesion[s]) range depending on the size of the re-resection.
Caveat: If your urologist performed only a biopsy, then bill just 52204 (Cystourethroscopy, with biopsy[s]).
