Reader Question:

Here's Your Explanation of 'Revision' for 64585

Question: Could you define 64585 for me in terms of what constitutes a “revision”?

Oregon Subscriber

Answer: In the procedure represented by 64585 (Revision or removal of peripheral neurostimulator electrode array), “revision” means that the provider surgically revises (shortens, redirects, re-attaches), a peripherally implanted electrode array (which may include several electrodes) that are part of an implanted neurostimulator.

Refresher: A peripherally implanted neurostimulator, or nerve stimulator, transmits electrical impulses to nerves outside of the brain and spinal cord. The procedure involves implanting electrodes around a selected peripheral motor or sensory nerve. The electrodes or leads then attach to a subcutaneously placed receiver or electronic pulse generator unit, which stimulates the nerve. Sciatic and ulnar nerves are often the sites of such implantations. Patients with refractory urinary frequency often will benefit with the above neurostimulation therapy.
