Question: Can we bill for catheters if the patient couldn’t be catheterized? The patient was supposed to have full urodynamics studies done but couldn’t because the urologist couldn’t pass the catheter into the bladder because of a urethral stricture.

Answer: The catheter would be considered a supply all urologists would have in their office and, thus, is not a separately billable item. Since the catheter was to be used for performing a urodynamic study and not for long term use, this item would not be billable to a DMERO plan.
