Determine Direct or General Supervision of a PTNS Service

Question: In your Urology Coding Alert Volume 13, Number 7, there was an article regarding PTNS coding and reimbursement. In that article, you mention that a nurse can perform the PTNS service under the supervision of a physician. Does this mean direct or general supervision?
Answer: A physician must be present in the office suite providing “direct” supervision when a nurse performs a posterior tibial neurostimulator (PTNS) study.
