Question: What is the correct code to use for buried/hidden penis repair? Nebraska Subscriber Answer: Submit 54300 (Plastic operation of penis for straightening of chordee [e.g., hypospadias], with or without mobilization of urethra) for the repair of a buried or hidden penis, based on guidance from the American Urological Association. Take note: Other procedural codes recently suggested in a "white paper" by a special group of pediatric urologists include the following: 55175 (Scrotoplasty, simple), 55180 (Scrotoplasty, complicated), 54360 (Plastic operation on penis to correct angulation), or 14040 (Adjacent tissue transfer or rearrangement, forehead, cheeks, chin, mouth, neck, axillae, genitalia, hands and/or feet; defect 10 sq cm or less). Use one or more of these codes based on the surgical work performed. The correct ICD-10 diagnosis is N48.83 (Acquired buried penis).
