Question: During a cystoscopy, my surgeon used a Bugbee electrode via the cystoscope to cauterize two fistulas in the bladder. He then inserted a long needle through the cystoscope and injected the fistulas with a fibrin glue. What code(s) would be best for this procedure?

Answer: Submit 52214 (Cystourethroscopy, with fulguration [including cryosurgery or laser surgery] of trigone, bladder neck, prostatic fossa, urethra, or periurethral glands) for the cystoscopic examination and Bugbee electrode cauterization of the fistulas. Then also include 20500 (Injection of sinus tract; therapeutic [separate procedure]) for the injection of fibrin glue.
