ICD-10:

Home in on 1 ICD-10 Code to Support Your UroLift® Claims

One BPH code replaces three come October.

When your urologist performs a UroLift® procedure for a patient with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and urinary obstruction, you have three ICD-9 codes from which to choose to indicate medical necessity for the procedure. Things will change under ICD-10 later this year.

Remember: ICD-10 implementation is scheduled for Oct. 1, 2015.

Match Up 1-to-1 Conversions

Under ICD-9, you choose from the following three BPH plus urinary obstruction coding options:

  • 600.01 — Hypertrophy (benign) of prostate with urinary obstruction and other lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS)
  • 600.21 — Benign localized hyperplasia of prostate with urinary obstruction and other lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS)
  • 600.91 — Hyperplasia of prostate, unspecified, with urinary obstruction and other lower urinary symptoms (LUTS).

With ICD-10 this fall, you will have just one code to report all of the above conditions: N40.1 (Enlarged prostate with lower urinary tract symptoms).

This code will support medical necessity for the UroLift® procedure.
