CPT 2006 Update:

Get to Know Your New Drug Administration Codes

CPT Codes has eliminated three temporary G codes and replaced them with three new permanent codes that you should begin using Jan. 1 for both Medicare and private carriers.
 
Urology coders should take note of the following new codes. For Zometa injections:

• Old code: G0347--Intravenous infusion, for therapeutic/diagnostic (specify substance or drug); initial, up to one hour.
• 2006 code: 90765--Intravenous infusion, for therapy, prophylaxis, or diagnosis (specify substance or drug); initial, up to 1 hour. For therapeutic or diagnostic injections, such as Depo-Testosterone:

• Old code: G0351--Therapeutic or diagnostic injection, subcutaneous or intramuscular.
• 2006 code: 90772--Therapeutic, prophylactic or diagnostic injection (specify substance or drug); subcutaneous or intramuscular. Note: The new 90772 code also replaces the injection code for antibiotics: 90788 (Intramuscular injection of antibiotic [specify]). For Lupron, Zoladex or other antineoplastic injections:

• Old code: G0356--Hormonal antineoplastic.
• 2006 code: 96402--Chemotherapy administration, subcutaneous or intramuscular; hormonal anti-neoplastic.
