Provide Mental Health Services for Veterans and Others

Question: We have several patients who are veterans who experience a wide variety of behavioral health challenges. Our providers have suggested in-person treatment options, including therapy, but some of the patients are reluctant to take advantage of the services, either due to transportation or scheduling issues. Are there other options that we can suggest?

Answer: Military service members often face several behavioral health challenges, including sleep deprivation, burnout, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, chronic pain, depression, grief, and addiction. Plus, according to a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) study published in 2021, the number of adults with recent symptoms of anxiety of a depressive disorder increased to 41.5 percent from August 2020 to February 2021.

Several options exist to provide mental health care to veterans, and here’s news of a partnership with that goal in mind.

Recently, Health Journeys, which publishes guided imagery and meditation audios, partnered with Get Well, a digital health company. The collaboration aims to offer Health Journeys’ programs to Get Well’s clients — placing a special focus on veterans.

Health Journeys’ library of content is designed to target the particular behavioral health challenges that veterans and military service members face and access to the Health Journeys catalogue will be made available to veteran patients via hospitals, Veterans Affairs (VA) hospitals, and health systems employing Get Well solutions.
