Question: With data breaches, ransomware attacks, and the growth of AI, could malicious threat actors use the emerging technology to attack our country’s network infrastructure? How are technology industry leaders handling the possible threats? Virginia Subscriber Answer: On June 13, 2024, the Joint Cyber Defense Collaborative (JCDC) coordinated the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Cyber Tabletop Exercise with the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the private sector. Over 50 organizations, including Amazon Web Services, Cisco, IBM, Palo Alto Networks, and OpenAI, participated in the exercises. The participants worked together to share strategies to securely adopt AI to shield critical infrastructure from cyberthreats. “This exercise marks another step in our collective commitment to reducing the risks posed by AI. It also highlights the importance of developing and delivering AI products that are designed with security as the top priority,” said Jen Easterly, CISA director in a press release. JCDC is planning another exercise in 2024 that will tie in vulnerabilities in the U.S. infrastructure.
