On Feb. 14, 2022, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded one-time grants to 29 centers funded by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The grants are intended to assist health centers in underserved communities or with vulnerable populations develop, implement, and evaluate strategies to expand access to virtual care services. The money is intended to be used to support services, such as: According to the HRSA website, between $1.4 million and $2 million was awarded to each community health center with the total amount nearing $55 million (https://bphc.hrsa.gov/program-opportunities/optimizing-virtual-care/fy22-awards). Recipients “will actively participate in collaborative learning and evaluation activities with other [Optimizing Virtual Care] award recipients to provide data and progress updates of their funded projects,” according to the agency. The funding is also intended to support the health centers design, implement, and evaluate methods to improve virtual care in the future.
