Specialty Code 95 Is Effective April 1, 2011

Question: When is the new specialty code for advanced diagnostic imaging services effective?Maryland SubscriberAnswer: The effective date is April 1, 2011, and the implementation date is April 4, 2011, according to CMS transmittal 2079, change request 7175, released Oct. 29, 2010.The new specialty code will be 95 (Advanced diagnostic imaging accreditation).Those billing Medicare for the technical component of advanced diagnostic imaging services (CT, MRI, PET, and other specified services) will need to be accredited by Jan. 1, 2012, to continue billing Medicare for those services.
