Question: How do I code for a patient who received a computed tomography (CT) scan of the abdomen and pelvis that includes oral contrast, only? Delaware Subscriber Answer: When you report code 74177 (Computed tomography, abdomen and pelvis; with contrast material(s)), you need to confirm within the technique that the provider administered contrast intravenously. If the documentation only supports administration of oral contrast, then you should not code the service as with contrast. Instead, you will report code 74176 (…without contrast material).
