Reader Questions:

Look to MRA Codes for MRV

Question: Is there a special CPT Code for reporting MRV procedures?

Florida Subscriber Answer: Magnetic resonance venography (MRV) is magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) of a vein. You should use MRA codes for MRV procedures.

Example: Your patient has had seizures and requires MRV to evaluate compression by tumor of the cerebral venous sinus.

Depending on the use of contrast, you report:

• 70544 -- Magnetic resonance angiography, head; without contrast material(s)

• 70545 -- ... with contrast material(s)

• 70546 -- ... without contrast material(s), followed  by contrast material(s) and further sequences.
