READER QUESTIONS:

Limit This MRA Run Off to 74185/73725

Question: When I code an MRA run-off study, should I report abdomen, pelvis, and lower-extremity charges?

Hawaii Subscriber

Answer: You should report an MRA run-off study with abdominal MRA code 74185 (Magnetic resonance angiography, abdomen, with or without contrast material[s]) and two units of 73725 (Magnetic resonance angiography, lower extremity, with or without contrast material[s]), assuming the physician documents findings for the abdomen and both lower extremities.

You should not charge for the pelvis MRA (72198, Magnetic resonance angiography, pelvis, with or without contrast material[s]) because payers include the iliac vessel evaluation in the other codes.
