Claim Contrast When Warranted

Question: How should we claim contrast for CT scans?

Ohio Subscriber Answer: If your practice pays for the contrast, then you can report the contrast material used with the appropriate HCPCS code. Be careful to report the correct number of units.
 
Example: Your documentation shows 200 ml of contrast material with 150 mg/ml of iodine, so you report 200 units of Q9946 (Low osmolar contrast material, 150-199 mg/ml iodine concentration, per ml).
