Texas Subscriber

Answer: Some payers will accept 37203 (Transcatheter retrieval, percutaneous, of intravascular foreign body [e.g., fractured venous or arterial catheter]) and 75961-26 (Transcatheter retrieval, percutaneous, of intravascular foreign body [e.g., fractured venous or arterial catheter], radiological supervision and interpretation; Professional component) for inferior vena cava (IVC) filter removal and the accompanying radiological supervision and interpretation.

Other payers may require you to use the unlisted vascular procedure code and unlisted supervision and interpretation code that best match your report give examples, so getting your payer's preference in writing may be the safest bet.

The procedure: The IVC is a major blood vessel that returns blood to the heart from the lower body. Physicians place IVC filters to prevent leg clots from reaching the heart and lungs. The physician uses imaging to position a catheter that allows him to insert the filter. Although earlier models were permanent, technological advances have yielded removable filters.
