Question: Our radiologist performed ultrasound guidance to assist an ob-gyn during an amniocentesis. Should we report the unlisted ultrasound procedure code (76999) for this? Missouri Subscriber Answer: There is no need to report 76999 (Unlisted ultrasound procedure [e.g., diagnostic, interventional]) because CPT includes a more specific code for this service. You should report 76946 (Ultrasonic guidance for amniocentesis, imaging supervision and interpretation) because this more descriptive code accurately describes your radiologist's service.
