Reader Question:

Do Not Forget 76942 with 10022

Question: How can we report a transrectal seminal vesical aspiration? Do we have any specific codes for this procedure?

Alabama Subscriber

Answer: You should check documentation to confirm if your physician used imaging guidance. Assuming that your physician used imaging guidance, you submit code 10022 (Fine needle aspiration; with imaging guidance). If, however, your physician did not use any image guidance, you submit code 10021 (Fine needle aspiration; without imaging guidance). If you report 10022, you should also report 76942 (Ultrasonic guidance for needle placement [e.g., biopsy, aspiration, injection, localization device], imaging supervision and interpretation) for needle placement.
