Question: How should I report prostate cyst aspiration and prostate cystogram? How do we report for the injection of contrast into the prostatic cyst?

Answer: You report code 10021 (Fine needle aspiration; without imaging guidance) for the aspiration of the prostatic cyst. For the radiological portion of the prostatic cystogram, you should report 72170 (Radiologic examination, pelvis; 1 or 2 views). This is because your physician will obtain x-ray of the pelvis to view the prostatic cyst filled with contrast material during a cystogram. Also, you submit 96372 (Therapeutic, prophylactic, or diagnostic injection [specify substance or drug]; subcutaneous or intramuscular) for the injection of contrast into the prostatic cyst. Further, check if your physician also did a cystoscopy. If so, you submit code 52000 (Cystourethroscopy [separate procedure]) for the cystoscopy.
