CCI May Bring You a Fall Reimbursement Surprise

Version 13.3's controversial IR change may be history

You've let your opinion be heard, and the Correct Coding Initiative (CCI) may respond in interventional radiologists' favor.

CCI version 13.3, effective Oct. 1, 2007, changed the guidelines for multiple interventions on the same vessel. Previously you could code multiple interventions (angioplasty, atherectomy, stenting) in the same vessel separately if the procedure met certain requirements. But 13.3 stated that you should code only the successful intervention.

Rumor has it CCI will be changing its language back to allow you to report all performed, documented interventions -- you will no longer be limited to just the successful one. We'll keep you posted.
