Keep Sight of Anatomic Site to Select CTA Code

As with the computed tomography (CT) scan codes, CPT breaks the CT angiography (CTA) codes down according to anatomic site.

If your documentation is unclear regarding the specific site (for instance, abdomen versus pelvis), always ask the physician to select the most accurate CPT Code rather than just choosing one that you believe to be "close."

Following is a list of the eight CTA codes:

70496 Computed tomographic angiography, head, without contrast material(s), followed by contrast material(s) and further sections, including image post-processing
70498 neck
71275 chest
72191 pelvis
73206 upper extremity
73706 lower extremity
74175 abdomen
75635 abdominal aorta and bilateral iliofemoral lower extremity runoff, radiological supervision and interpretation, without contrast material(s), followed by contrast material(s) and further sections, including image post-processing.
