Get a Sneak Peek at Radiology CCI 14.0 News

This round proves the importance of having an updated CPT manualCorrect Coding Initiative (CCI) version 14.0 hits the new 2008 codes hard, but the good news is that many of the edits repeat instructions in your 2008 manual.Example: CPT 2008 includes a crucial instruction not to report +0159T (Computer-aided detection, including computer algorithm analysis of MRI image data for lesion detection/characterization, pharmaco-kinetic analysis, with further physician review for interpretation, breast MRI [list separately in addition to code for primary procedure]) with 3D rendering codes 76376 and 76377. CCI 14.0 echoes this instruction by bundling 0159T into the 3D reconstruction codes, with a "1" modifier indicator. The "1" means that you may override the edit when appropriate, such as when the 3D code applies to a separate procedure. You can't override edits with a "0" indicator. The edits also reinforce that many of the 2008 codes include radiological supervision and interpretation, so you can't report RS&I codes separately.Stay tuned: We'll explore the edits in depth in upcoming issues of Radiology Coding Alert.
