Reader Questions:

Rely on 'Unlisted' for MIP and MEP Testing

Question: What codes should I submit for MIP and MEP tests?Oklahoma SubscriberAnswer: The pulmonologist checks a patient's MIP (maximal inspiratory pressure) and MEP (maximal expiratory pressure) to determine if respiratory muscle weakness is present. Report both services with 94799 (Unlisted pulmonary service or procedure) because CPT does not include codes for these tests.Remember that all unlisted codes lack a service description and fee. Be sure to include these when submitting your claim.
