Question: My doctor said he performed a diagnostic laryngoscopy with a tracheoscopy on an adult. He wants to know what the CPT is for doing that in the office. Most of the time my doctors do this in the operating room, so we're not sure how to code this. How should we do it? Minnesota Subscriber Answer: A pulmonologist can perform 31525 (Laryngoscopy direct, with or without tracheoscopy; diagnostic, except newborn) in both the facility or office settings. The code would be the same regardless of the location. Be sure to identify the correct place of service on the claim form (i.e., 22, OH; 11, office; 24, ASC). Also, be sure that you are only performing and reporting services that are appropriate for the setting in which it is performed. Some procedures are not safe to be performed in certain outpatient settings.
