Do You Know the New COVID-19 Booster Codes?

Question: The newest COVID-19 boosters have come out recently. What the codes are, and which administration codes go with which vaccine?

Answer: Pfizer and Moderna have each come out with their own bivalent COVID-19 vaccines to target subvariants BA.4 and BA.5. The vaccines can be used as a booster dose for patients who were previously vaccinated for COVID-19.

The new Pfizer codes, along with their administration codes, are:

  • 91312 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)… 30 mcg/0.3 mL dosage…)
    • 0124A (Immunization administration by intramuscular injection… 30 mcg/0.3 mL dosage…)
  • 91315 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)… 10 mcg/0.2 mL dosage…)
    • 0154A (Immunization administration by intramuscular injection… 10 mcg/0.2 mL dosage… )

Note: The vaccine product described by code 91312 may be used for patients aged 12 years and older, and the vaccine product described by code 91315 may be used in patients aged 5 through 11 years.

The new Moderna codes and their administration codes are:

  • 91313 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)… 50 mcg/0.5 mL dosage, for intramuscular use)
    • 0134A (Immunization administration by intramuscular injection … 50 mcg/0.5 mL dosage, booster dose)
  • 91314 (Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)… 25 mcg/0.25 mL… dosage…)
    • 0144A (Immunization administration by intramuscular… 25 mcg/0.25 mL dosage, booster dose)

Note: The vaccine product described by code 91313 may be used in patients aged 18 years and older, and the vaccine product described by code 91314 may be used in patients aged 6 through 11 years.
